Activities in Port Macquarie

Port Macquarie is a lovely coastal town on the Hastings River with over 65,000 residents and a growing range of restaurants, shops, markets, golf courses, galleries, arts and crafts. Located in the North Coast region of New South Wales, Port Macquarie is about half way between Sydney and Brisbane, making it the perfect place for traveler’s to stop and relax.

This area is a beautiful holiday destination with something for everyone from rainforest nature reserves and koala habitats, to uncrowded patrolled beaches with great swimming and surfing. There is even a clothing optional beach in Port Macquarie - a short stroll from Shelly Beach.

The ocean and river fishing are excellent and there are bushwalking tracks around the headlands where you can spot dolphins and whales during their migration season from June to October. Port Macquarie's history of settlement began just 30 years after Sydney and there remain several buildings and churches from the early days as a penal colony. In the surrounding area there are world class wineries which offer entertainment including jazz and classical music to accompany their winery tours.
